Tumbling over the past year and a half has made me see the problems of gender roles that exist in media, but sometimes it gets to the point where I over analyze every single piece of television or film that I come across. (However this in no way means that I think feminist media criticism is wrong, or should be avoided!) Mostly I just over think everything.

LOLOL It sometimes feels like this - but the distinctions actually make sense in my head. (This is not directed at the OP, btw. It’s more at people who might look at the comic, ignore/misread the text under it, and think it’s criticizing feminism)

Criticizing eye candy is less about what the character is wearing and more about how she’s presented.

For instance, in the Avengers - Black Widow can wear a skin-tight cat suit and save the world and be awesome! But the posters that showcase her butt in said catsuit are objectifying her. Same outfit, two different presentations.

The Warrior Woman idea is just one of those fine lines. A lot of male writers tend to do one of two things - they either write women as being weak, or they overcompensate/misunderstand and write them as dudes. Not all writers, mind you - but I mean in the situations where these complaints come up.

The criticisms are more about writing women who are well rounded - who are human beings. Write warrior women as women - give them more traits than just testosterone fueled aggression. And if you have a physically weak woman, give her other strengths. Flesh her out. You can be strong without having muscles.

Anyway - I have been over analyzing everything myself recently. I think it’s why I have to take tumblr breaks every once in awhile. lol

Tumblr is really good at overanalyzing things

but at least this person is thinking critically from both sides of the coin

instead of just assuming everything is sexist and finding ways to confirm that preconceived notion

which tends to be what happens here

feminists give men way too much credit

most of the dumb sexist shit men do and say in social situations has nothing to do with trying to “establish male dominance”

it’s just men being incompetent and clueless

and, the transformation in our minds of woman to objects is an elevation (in our…
